In this talk Susan Morris will be drawing on ideas from Barthes’s Camera Lucida and Krauss’s Notes on the Index to show how her work – made at the junction between writing, drawing and photography – aims at kind of meaninglessness; a mark closer to ‘sound’.

Dr Susan Morris is an artist, based in London. In 2007 she completed a PhD at the University of the Arts London, entitled On the Blank: Photography, Writing and Drawing. She teaches on the photography BA at the University of Westminster. In July 2010 she presented a paper at the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research’s 25th Anniversary Conference: Lacan in the UK: Art, Clinic, Feminism, Literature and has recently been awarded a grant from the Wellcome Trust to make new work for the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
